Fiscal Impact:
There is no fiscal impact for Fiscal Year 2023-2024. If approved by the City Council, the cost of the proposed increase to annual compensation for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 would be $5,385. The proposed increase would become effective in December 2024 following the November 5, 2024, General Municipal Election.
Background and Analysis:
At the May 28, 2024 City Council meeting, the City Council introduced Ordinance No. 2024-05-1546 and Ordinance No. 2024-05-1547. The ordinances are presented for second reading and adoption. Upon adoption, the City Clerk will certify the adoption of the ordinances and cause the summary of the ordinances to be published in a newspaper, post the ordinance in accordance with Section 1.08.010, and post the ordinance on the City’s website.
A summary of each ordinance was posted in accordance with Signal Hill Municipal Code (SHMC) 1.08.010 and published in the Signal Tribune newspaper on May 31, 2024. Upon adoption of the ordinances, the summaries will be posted in accordance with SHMC 1.08.010 and published in the Signal Tribune newspaper. Ordinance No. 2024-05-1546 and Ordinance No. 2024-05-1547 will be published in their entirety on the City website.
Next Steps:
The Government Code stipulates that a salary adjustment may only become effective upon the beginning of a new term of office for one or more members of the City Council. The next term would commence after the November 2024 General Municipal Election results are certified, and as a result, the increase would be effective December 6, 2024.
