bodyFiscal Impact:
The City’s annual Capital Improvement Project budget for the Citywide Street Tree Planting Project (90.24010) is $200,000. The City Council awarded a contract to SDC Engineering for the Street Tree Planting Project for a total not-to-exceed amount of $120,137.58. The final contract amount was $113,137.58, resulting in a contract cost of $7,000 under the initial approved budget.
Background and Analysis:
On May 14, 2024, the City Council awarded a Public Works contract to SDC Engineering to provide planting services for 200, 24-inch, box trees at existing vacant tree wells. The project scope included the following:
• Tag trees prior to nursery delivery (trees procured by the City).
• Tree maintenance and watering for six months following the completion of planting.
• Ensure adherence to the most recent Street Tree Master Plan guidelines and the City’s planting standards.
During the construction phase, the planting standard detail was revised to comply with the City’s planting guidelines, resulting in a credit to the unit cost for planting each tree in accordance with the updated standards. The final contract amount, as approved by the Public Works Director totaled $113,137.58. Following the completion of construction, the project underwent a final inspection and approval of final quantities, concluding successfully on January 15, 2025.
Based on the contractor's satisfactory performance and compliance with project specifications, staff recommends the City Council adopt the proposed resolution formally declaring the final acceptance of the project.
