Background & Analysis:

This year will mark the 61st anniversary of OARD, which will recognize one outstanding older adult for their volunteer services from each of the 88 cities in Los Angeles County. The City of Signal Hill and LACCOA Older Americans Recognition Day (OARD) Awards Program honors seniors throughout Los Angeles County for their dedicated volunteer service and positive impact in the lives of others.

The City, by way of the Parks and Recreation Commission, selects a Signal Hill resident, aged 60 or older, as an Older American and submits the nominee for the award.

The selected award recipient will be recognized as Signal Hill’s honoree at the Los Angeles County Commission of Aging’s Older Americans Recognition Day award ceremony and at a City Council meeting in May 2026.

This year, nominations were open to the community in early January.  The Parks and Recreation Commission will discuss nominees and select an honoree to be the City of Signal Hill Older American for 2026.
